TodayHockeyCycling in the USA
Cycling events split into racing and riding. Criteriums and road races are timed and competitive; gran fondos, charity rides and gravel events are mass-start rides with feed stations and a fixed distance rather than a podium. Most are entered through the organiser, not a ticketing platform.

Frequently asked questions
What is a gran fondo?
A long mass-participation road ride, typically 60 to 100+ miles, with timed sections, marked routes and aid stations. Riders of all abilities enter, and most treat it as a personal challenge rather than a race.
Do I need a racing licence to enter?
Sanctioned road and track races normally require a USA Cycling licence, and one-day licences are usually available at registration. Gran fondos, gravel events and charity rides generally do not.
Are e-bikes allowed at cycling events?
Many gran fondos and charity rides now run an e-bike category, while sanctioned races almost always exclude them. The organiser states the policy on the entry page.
Where can I ride away from traffic?
Rail trails are the answer in most of the country — former railway lines converted to paved or crushed-stone paths with gentle gradients and no cars. The Rails-to-Trails Conservancy maps every one.
